HORTON KIRBY & SOUTH DARENTH LOCAL HISTORY SOCIETY

Farningham Road Station
John Woodhead is in the middle of putting together a booklet on Farningham Road station and is very interested in receiving information for inclusion. He says: “I’ve already got an absolutely fascinating insight of the early 60s from Harry Barrett but am still looking for more both from that time and other eras.” If anyone has any privately-held photos of trains, the viaduct and station from any period John Woodhead would love to hear from you. He also wants accounts of life at the station from people who worked there or details of incidents from those who used it. If you know of any stories that would be of interest, however small, ring John on 01322 866111.

The society was formed in September 1994 with the object of advancing the education of the general public in history, especially the local history of the parish, and to carry out, publish and disseminate the useful results of research into the local history.

It meets every other month at the Village Hall, South Darenth and has already published nine booklets, three books, a Millennium Video, an illustrated Parish map, tea towels and notelets.

A further print run of the sell out Court Lodge book in memory of Ralph Rogers has been ordered.

The new book on the history of the schools in the parish is now available. This has lots of photos of the schools and children up to 1970.

For further information contact the Secretary, Keith Saunderson on 01322 862056 or "Appledore", Rays Hill, Horton Kirby, Dartford, Kent, DA4 9DB.
