CHAIRMAN/MATTERS ARISING

No response so far from the Parish Council or from any residents, to the explanation in the last Village Society newsletter regarding the difference in responsibilities and functions of the PC & HKVS.

No information from South Darenth Village Society regarding their forthcoming Firework Display.

SECRETARY

One letter received from Joy Burch expressing thanks for the two free summer outings, family & seniors.

Eileen Saunders from 3 Millen Court has asked the Parish Council from where she could purchase a litter picker identical to those belonging to HKVS. It was agreed to issue one of the society’s litter pickers on permanent loan to Ms Saunders, as she collects a great deal of litter as she walks around the village.

TREASURER

Current Account             £2115.57

Church Fund                   £2769.04

Fete profit                       £1381.07

Several groups running stalls at the summer fayre have not made a contribution to the village society this year. HK Local History Society has thanked HKVS for the loan of £50 towards the publication of the School book. The loan has now been repaid. HKVS insurance is due at the end of the year/early January.

FEEDBACK ON RECENT EVENTS

Seniors Outing: 8th September. Generally thought to be very successful. Brighton was regarded as a good venue for a day out.

Walk: 10th October.                     About 14 people took part. More needed.

Barn Dance: 15th October.          Poor response this year. Only 38 attendees. Loss made of £208. The band cost £265; food cost £220.

Tickets cost £8. We will run this event one more time and assess the continuation of the dance after that. For discussion in 2005.

Bulb Planting 17th October:  This had to be postponed, as we had not received all the bulbs.                      AP. Kerry

FUTURE EVENTS

Mid year Meeting: 29th October. We have enough wine. Richard & Julie to provide cheese & snacks. David will be away. Phil to run the meeting. Garden Competition trophies to be presented.

                                                                             AP. Committee

Titfield Thunderbolt: 20th November. Price of tickets £7/£5 includes an interval drink. Tickets are going very slowly at present.

Carol Concert at The Fighting Cocks. Date originally planned for December 20th is changing. It is expected the date may be Tuesday 21st December.

Seniors Entertainment: 8th January. Commences at 7.30pm. Entitled ‘Two for the One and Nines’. Tickets will cost £6; concessions to seniors living in Horton Kirby will be free. There will be a raffle.

Future items from Applause:  There is nothing suitable in the programme apart from items lasting for about one hour. We will wait to arrange an event until the next programme is issued.

Adriano’s Concert. It is hoped that he and his fellow artistes will give another concert in the church in December. Possible dates are 12th or 19th.

Village Walk on 1st. January. It was undecided whether to hold this walk on New Year’s Day or on Sunday 2nd January.

Murder Mystery in the spring. A suggestion was made that this could be held in the village hall, as we have no entertainment planned until autumn 2005 after the January event.

NEWSLETTER

The next issue should be ready for distribution at the end of November.

                                                                               AP. Phil, Steve

CHURCH MATTERS

The donation list is quite small. We need to enrol more people to make  annual payments. A little tidying up has been done in the churchyard.

David attended a meeting at the church. The church now has enough money to start preliminaries to the whole redecoration. Linda Green is to compile a list of jobs to be done, which is called a faculty and holds a 2 year lifespan. The basic work may start in the spring, so that the actual interior redecoration will be ready to go ahead in autumn 2005. There is also some concern with the original underfloor heating system, which is no longer in use, but could cause damp related problems. One of the exterior walls is also in need of attention.

PARISH COUNCIL

Nothing to report.

LIAISON WITH SDVS

No interest has been shown in discussing joint events. A sub-committee will try once more to set up a meeting. AP. David, Phil, Graham
