Horton Kirby Village Society

Minutes of the Committee Meeting

Tuesday 16th May 2006 at 19 Rashleigh Way

Members present: David Crowhurst, Philip Gough, Richard Costley, Steven Allport, Kerry Pitcher, Graham Edwards, Garrett Phipps.

1.                  Apologies: Ken Allart

2.                  Minutes of previous meeting: Minutes of meeting held on 11th April agreed as correct.

3.                  Chairman & Matters Arising: Additional committee members had not been progressed by David Crowhurst as he had not been able to see anyone from Millen Court. Garret Phipps had agreed to join the committee.

David Crowhurst had received a letter from Mr & Mrs Reynolds, addressed to the Village Society, concerning the sale of land at Rays Hill. They had erroneously accused the Society of acting without consulting those most affected. The Chairman emphasised that the Village Society, while obviously concerned about the possible sale, was not involved in efforts to acquire the land from the current owner. The Committee acknowledged that had Mr & Mrs Reynolds taken the time to carefully read the minutes of the Parish Council meeting, that they referred to in their letter, that it should have been obvious. Those minutes had clearly and unambiguously referred to a “group of interested people from the village” approaching the parish Council.

It was agreed that the Vice Chairman would write to Mr & Mrs Reynolds advising them that the Village Society was not involved.

4.                  Secretary’s Report: No new correspondence had been received since the last meeting.

5.                  Treasurer’s Report: The current account stands at £1,872.26. A considerable amount of this would be needed to fund the forthcoming fete.

The History Society still owed £500.00, which had been advanced, by way of an interest free loan, to pay for a publication relating to the village’s history. This would be repaid from book sales.

The Church Account remains £3,249.00. He had been unable to transfer this money to the Church due to administrative difficulties with Barclays Bank in closing the account.

6.                  Environment Group Update: Kerry Pitcher reported that the church burial ground needed work as the nettles had grown back.

Roger pitcher had agreed to make the bench to be placed on the riverbank between Westminster Field and Franks Lane and plans were well advanced. The Committee were shown a drawing of the proposed design and agreed to commission the work.

Trees were to be planted around the village. Types would be dependant upon the location to ensure that they would be appropriate to the setting.

Lay by opposite Bexley Cottages needed tending, as this was overgrown and an eyesore.

Kerry Pitcher agreed to chair the environmental group. Cathy Maslin had also agreed to assist her!
