MAJOR NATIONAL YOUTH CYCLE EVENT IN THE PARISH
Some of the country's best young cyclists will be taking part in an event from the National Youth Circuit Race Series and the SE Division Youth Championships on the morning of Sunday 11 July on the roads in Horton Kirby. This will be an exciting spectacle for those who come out to watch.
There will also be a fun-raiser ride afterwards when locals can have the chance to ride their push bikes around the course.
The Police and Kent Highways have agreed a road closure of the circuit comprising Lombard Street, School Lane, Three Gates Road and Mussenden Lane. Team Darenth, our very successful local youth cycling club, is working very hard to make this event a great success for the riders and for the village and is working closely with the Parish Councils and the authorities to keep the disruption to locals to a minimum.
It is obvious that some residents will be affected more than others. If you are not planning to stay put and enjoy the races, the organisers have put together detailed notes in a leaflet which will be put through your doors nearer the time. The Police and marshals will ensure the safety of all.
Traffic will be directed away from the circuit and those who normally park in Lombard Street will be asked to consider moving their cars to Bull Hill which will be closed to through traffic so that it can be used solely for residents' parking. Marshals will be able to direct those wanting to drive from Lombard Street, School Lane, Carleton Place and Rashleigh Way onto Forge Lane when there is an appropriate space.
