BUS SERVICES 323 AND 328 SCRAPPED

These weekly buses provided by Sevenoaks which serve our parish will stop from April.  They are extremely popular with the public - 34 on average use the Gravesend bus  and 41 go to Sevenoaks - but the cost of
subsidising them is just too great for the District Council.

WITHDRAWAL OF 20P BUS PASSES

Sevenoaks District Council is set to scrap the very popular 20p concessionary bus passes which so many of our elderly use.  The alternative will be the half-price off-peak bus passes which, although free to get, will in the long run make bus travel a lot more expensive for those who make regular journeys into Dartford.

SDC councillor Philip McGarvey said: "At the time of going to print the decision to abolish the 20p bus pass concession has not yet been confirmed by the Cabinet to other SDC Councillors nor submitted to full Council for vote, though we expect it to be on 3rd February 2004.  Many of us are fighting this unpopular proposal, and we are grateful to the many residents who have taken the time to write in and/or sign petitions."

Darent Valley Lions thank Dianne and her Village Store customers for raising a total of £496 towards their welfare fund.  During the next 12 months Dianne has decided that monies raised by the secondhand book sales will be donated to the Lions Hospice at Northfleet
