SHRUBBERY  ROAD GREEN

Residents local to the Shrubbery Road play area will shortly be consulted by the Parish Council ahead of any decision on the area's future.

The area is currently designated as an important open space but West Kent Housing has recently attempted to claim that it is surplus to local need, derelict and suitable for building.

Before presenting any plans to re-landscape or re-introduce play equipment the Council is keen to establish, through consultation, if local people do want the open space retained. Councillor Ian Wescombe said; "By conducting a proper consultation the results will be difficult for West Kent Housing or any other developer to overturn. The views of local people will be on record and this will make it very difficult for a developer to try to ride roughshod over this community again."

Questionnaires will be bought to the door in the survey area in the next few weeks.

PAYPHONE AT WESTMINSTER FIELD, THE STREET

Last July we asked you all if the payphone - that had been vandalised on many occasions - should be removed for good.  Those who responded were quite clear that there could be a time when having a public phone available was a lifeline.  The decision was therefore made NOT to ask BT to remove it.
