Text Box: PUBLIC TOILETS WESTMINSTER FIELD
The Parish Council has decided to close the public conveniences for the winter months. Costs of cleaning them every day and constant vandalism has prompted councillors to say enough is enough. Some wanted to close them all year round as they are of little benefit to locals who have to foot the bill but others were concerned about health hazards during the summer when many visitors including local people spend the day in the field and by the river.

A 14% increase is going to be imposed from 1 April 2007 on the current cleaning cost of £90 a week. For a full year that would mean a bill of over £5,360. By only opening from 1 April to 30 Sept half of that will be saved. To save the whole amount, and the costs of replacing torn down
toilet roll holders and hand driers, the toilets would have to be closed
permanently. Do you think they should be? Let us know what you think!
