Text Box: CLEANING OF HORSES IN RIVER DARENT (FRANKS LANE)
This is still happening and is a cause of concern for many people. Last June, Stacey Settafield of the Environment Agency told us the EA had
carried out water quality tests and a biological survey of the riverbed and found there had been no affect on water quality or environment, so the EA had no powers to do anything about it. She promised to review the situation if circumstances changed. Just before Christmas a large number of horses were seen being washed in the river so perhaps now is the time to make a note (very discreetly) of such incidences including full details of the vehicles involved so that they can be reported.
Text Box: Rainbow Guides

A visit from the local Falconry Centre, Christmas crafts and a visit to the panto are just a few of the recent activities.
Rainbow Guides is the youngest section of the Guide Association for girls between 5 and 7 yrs. We meet term time Wednesdays in the village hall from 4.30 to 5.30 pm and each meeting is based around the Rainbow themes of Look, Learn, Laugh and Love. Rainbows have lots of fun
developing a whole range of skills whilst interacting with the local
community.
We do have a waiting list for the unit and a limit of 15 Rainbows at any one time, so it is never too soon to put your daughter’s name down.

Text Box: PLEA TO OWNERS OF PLANTS OVERHANGING THE FOOTWAY
Check the state of your plants and hedges. Are they causing a nuisance to passers-by, narrowing the pavement so that pedestrians have to walk in the road? A particular problem is in East Hill where parked cars also reduce footway width. If so, please BE A GOOD NEIGHBOUR, cut them back.
