Text Box: Kent Highways do not seem to want to help. They told the Parish Council last August that there are no safety issues. Councillors disagree. If you do too, write to Kent Highways. Dartford’s transport engineer, is waiting to carry out a joint approach with his counterpart in Sevenoaks but Sevenoaks’ parking service cannot even look at the problem until next Summer because areas of Swanley and Sevenoaks are taking priority. The Police have said that they think it is more of a traffic management problem than one for them. Nothing has been heard from Councillor Tony Martin about his community parking scheme for all stations in the Dartford area.

SO, WHO IS GOING TO DO ANYTHING?

We raised this issue in our last newsletter and urged you to write to Dartford Borough Council but things have only got worse since October. Please continue to write to all of the following (with a copy please to the Parish Council):

Kent Highways, Joynes House, New Road, Gravesend, DA11 0AT, 08458 247 800, kent.highwayservices@kent.gov.uk

Roger Gough, County Councillor (see back page)

Cllr Gary Williamson, Sevenoaks District Council. Argyle Road, Sevenoaks, TN13 1HG

Andy Bracey, Senior Traffic & Parking Officer, SDC, Argyle Road

Stephen Arnold, Sevenoaks District Councillor (see back page)
Philip McGarvey, Sevenoaks District Councillor (see back page)

Ch Insp Gill Ellis, Swanley Police Station, London Road, Swanley, BR8 7AJ 01322 283174, gillian.ellis@kent.pnn.police.uk

People power could be the answer to this one. According to an article in the News Shopper dated 9 January 2008, residents near Swanley station have got Sevenoaks Council to sort out their problems from commuter parking. It has taken 3 public consultations and a couple of years but something is at last being done there. Sevenoaks cabinet member with responsibility for transport issues, Cllr Gary Williamson said: “We have taken this opportunity to carry out a comprehensive review of on-street parking
arrangements by Swanley station at the request of the community. In doing so we have taken into account the community’s many suggestions.” PLEASE WRITE NOW.
