Text Box: Play Equipment
Shrubbery Road

Some of your Parish councillors carried out a consultation event on the Shrubbery Road Green on Saturday 8 December to get the views of residents on what sort of play equipment they would like there. As a result, Members now have a better idea of which items they should be costing with suppliers, how much funding is needed and how to take the first steps to provide phase 1 of the project. The first phase will provide a goal, basketball ring and associated fencing item (cost £10,982) which will be paid for from insurance claim monies still held by the insurance company following the loss of the large wooden multiplay unit some years ago. There will also be repairs to the existing swings and safety surfaces together with either a seesaw or Shimmy (a small tower with ramps and slide) both of which were favoured by residents. Funding for these will come from the County Councillor’s grant fund, from the Rail Action Group funds (see page 7) and Parish Council reserves. An application is also being made to Sevenoaks District Council for financial assistance. Recommendations with costings were put to the Parish Council on 28 January 2008.

The question of CCTV has been raised and whilst it is recognised that the cost of an independent system would be prohibitive, Sevenoaks District Council and West Kent Housing are to be contacted to see if the Shrubbery Road area can be included in their systems. Brighter lighting on the green is also going to be investigated.
