1st HORTON KIRBY SCOUT GROUP

Three new scouts, Henry Attree, Perry Parker and Edward Smith were presented with their ADVENTURE CREST AWARDS gained as Cubs. This is the highest badge they could have achieved.
The Group has a full programme of outdoor events planned.  The scouts have just been fishing and entered the District Camping Competition.  There will be a survival camp in July and a 4-day trip down to the coast in August.  The Beavers and Cubs will join the Brownies for an activity day in Farningham Woods.  The District sports day is in June.
Contacts are:- Barbara Bradley (862005) or John / Cathy Myers (284958).
The Brownies (Tuesdays in the Village Hall) - contact Claire Lewsey (294493).
We are still looking for help from adults who would like to work with the scout troop.  Experience is not necessary, just patience, time and, of course, you must like working with children.  Do you fit the bill? - Yes, then give any of the above a ring

Revised Parliamentary Constituencies in Kent and Medway

The Boundary Commission is currently reviewing parliamentary constituencies.  Although we are in Sevenoaks for local government, we vote for a Dartford MP.  It is not proposed that this will change though some think that it is confusing to be part of Dartford for general elections but in Sevenoaks for local elections.

The review is all about numbers.  In Kent an average constituency should have 1 MP for 69,331 voters.  Dartford has 68,028 voters and Sevenoaks has 71,237 so if the 3,331 voters from Farningham, Horton Kirby and South Darenth was taken out of Dartford and put into Sevenoaks there would be an even greater imbalance.  Experience shows that it is unlikely therefore that this would be agreed.  However, representations can be made (within 1 month of 8 May) and if a body of 100 people objects, a public enquiry must be held.

Fence at Millen Court
Some members of the Horton Kirby Village Society were unhappy at the wooden fence behind the noticeboard at Millen Court because it is not in keeping with the Conservation Area.  SDC planning department has however confirmed that it is permitted development so the fence will remain.
