DARENT VALLEY LIONS CLUB
Over the winter months, we treated our senior citizens to tea and entertainment in their sheltered accommodation and we are organising a trip down to Hailsham Lions during June where they will be entertained again plus a further trip to Minster in August. Together with Norfolk Broads Lions, we have organised to send a disabled family on a Norfolk holiday.
We are helping our young people by giving financial aid to the special needs children in Rowhill School and a young man from Axton Chase School who is going to Japan to improve his Japanese. We have sent £1200 to the Lions Hospice to help them purchase a heated trolley to take hot food to the wards and our sponsored swimabit for the Hospice raised £870 by five members.
Our Club has sponsored CORINTHIANS under 15s football team in the Lions International competition. They became the southern champions when they beat Polkerris from Cornwall 7 - 1 and on Saturday 6th May, they met Blaby from Leicestershire at Port Vale Football Stadium and won 5:1 to become UK champions. Barbara Bradley who went to the match to support the team said: "It was wonderful to be there. Our team was on top all the time and there were great celebrations afterwards. Not bad for a little team from Fawkham!" The team's manager is Ian Reynolds, son of Celia Reynolds of Riverside Pre-School.
Our summer fete is on Saturday 15th July at Heathside behind the Village Hall from 12 noon. We have Punch & Judy shows - Morris Dancers - Jazz Band - Kent School of Circus Skills and lots more. The profit will go to our local charities and the Lions Hospice. If you would like a stall - 4 metres £10 - please contact Barbara Bradley 01322 862005.
