HORTON KIRBY BURIAL GROUND

The Parish Council has recently adopted a policy detailed below for the good management of the burial ground following a survey which showed  a variety of unauthorised structures.  Edgings in a variety of styles and materials affect the appearance of the burial ground, hamper the maintenance of the paths between the graves and cause a danger to the contractor.  It is felt that the policy, once adopted by all will improve the burial ground for all users and co-operation from everyone concerned will be appreciated.

Permission must be obtained before any structure is put on to a grave.
Standard kerbs (3" x 3") only are allowed.  These can be of stone or wood.  The size allowed is a maximum of 6 feet 6 inches long by 2 feet 6 inches wide. Permission must be sought and would be granted for  25 years (stone kerbs) or 10 years (wooden kerbs) after which time, if not kept up, they will be removed.   Whether or not kerbs are used the maximum size of the plot that can be tended is 6 feet 6 inches by 2 feet 6 inches in order to allow the grass between the graves to be cut.
Chippings
are only allowed within authorised kerbs.
Trees and shrubs (including rose bushes) are not allowed to be planted on any plot.  All existing trees and shrubs will be removed after consultation with owners where known.  The Parish Council is currently looking into the possibility to provide a special area for planting trees and shrubs.
Old and faded artificial flowers and broken vases will be removed.
Please call in to the parish office if would like more information.
