SOUTH DARENTH VILLAGE SOCIETY

"A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL THE HELPERS FOR THE JUBILEE PICNIC"  It was a huge success (although it rained late in the afternoon) and was well supported by the village.  The money raised will be going towards the cost of a firework display for the village.

We supported the Flower Festival at St Mary's Church in September and have bought a wreath for the Remembrance Service on 10 November.

Future events will include:

Firework Display        3rd November, 5.30--8.30, Heathside
Moon Magic (Kids Show)    16th November, 11.30, Legion Hall
Live Music                                18th January 2003, Village Hall
Batania Marimba                       3rd May, Village Hall

Check for future dates for litter and river picks, bulb planting and details on bat boxes. If anyone has any ideas for improving the village and/or events, please let us know.

HORTON KIRBY VILLAGE SOCIETY

Terry McGuiness RHS judge of this Summer's
best gardens
competition
was very impressed by the number of people who had made a real effort to make the village a more beautiful place.

The winning gardens in the
front garden category were 2 Drays Cottages (Gold) and 65 School Lane (Silver).  Mr McGuiness said: "The tiny garden at Drays Cottages was cleverly planted and to scale.  There were many plants but was not over crowded.  It shows how a small space can look stunning, given time and thought."

Gold in the Containers class was won by 28 Churchill Road with
Hollyhock Cottage in The Street taking Silver.
