DISTRICT AND PARISH ELECTIONS

Next May we have elections for a new parish council as well as Sevenoaks District.  It is not too soon to start thinking about whether you would like to be a parish councillor.  A good way to find out is to attend monthly meetings to see what goes on.  You may have a desire to see things done differently and have ideas on how public money should be spent.  The best way to do that is from the inside by standing for office.  The last 2 elections have seen only 10 candidates for 9 seats - it would be nice to see more so that electors have a real choice.  All candidates will have the chance to put their views to everyone in the parish through the pages of this newsletter next February.

Electoral Registration

You should have received your voter registration form by now and with the District Council and
Parish Council seats up for election next May it is important you return them.

There are some significant changes this year so do read the form carefully. From this December two
entirely separate registers will be published: a "full" register for
voting and  credit reference purposes and an "edited" register which will contain only the names and addresses of those people who are happy to have their details sold and used for commercial purposes, including mailshots.

You
must complete and return the voter registration form by law - you can be fined for not doing so - but there is a column on this year's form where you can tick next to your name to make sure that your details are not included on the
second "edited" register.

Anyone who would like to
vote by post can so indicate on the voter registration form and they will automatically be registered to vote by post in all future elections. Don't forget that if you move after the qualifying date for inclusion in the next register of electors (the qualifying date is 15
