The Valley Players, a charitable organisation that presents plays twice a year at the village hall, are in urgent need of persons to operate their basic lighting and sound equipment. Instruction in the use of the equipment can be given (if required). The Group needs someone as soon as possible because the members who normally do this have left the district and the next production is at the end of November.
"We are a friendly group and new members will be made very welcome," says Ray Beven. All profits from the performances are donated to Cancer Research UK. Please contact Ray on 01322 276455.
DOG FOULING
Will this subject ever go away? Will we ever arrive at the happy day when all dog owners act responsibly and clear up after their dogs? Our pavements and open spaces are still unpleasant thanks to a minority of pet owners who don't seem to care that their dogs are leaving a mess for others to deal with. The Parish Council has done what it can - it has provided expensive-to-empty dog bins, and provided free dog gloves in Westminster Field - and SDC put up signs. It is now up to anybody and everybody who sees non-compliance with the fouling laws to report it. Take the number of a vehicle and the dog warden will follow it up. Report anyone you know who refuses to clear up after their dog and they will receive a visit. At the same time, let's applaud all those dog owners who do proudly carry their poop scoop bags!
Fence in River
The galvanised barrier by Westminster Field bridge was put in the river by a property management company on behalf of the residents of Millen Court without consent. The Environment Agency, which can give permission for such structures subject to strict design criteria, told the company to remove it in August but, at the time of going to press, it has still not been removed.
Parish councillors would like to remind all Westminster Field users that the car park gate is locked at 5 pm during the Winter (Oct - Mar) and 7 pm in the Summer (Apr - Sept). Please co-operate by removing your car on time - Keith Phillips, the Council's employee sometimes has to wait around for an hour to get the last person to leave.
