South Darenth Village Society Summer Concert - 31st August 2003
The summer concert was a great success with over 800 people turning up for what turned out to be a magical evening. It was a pleasure to see so many of the people who turned up come prepared with picnics, wine and plenty of warm clothing as the chilled autumn weather came upon us with the setting of the sun. Whilst the music was the main attraction, many enjoyed themselves just chatting to other villagers, or enjoying the last of the summer sun.
The event started with the Ron Mackie Sextet Jazz band playing many of the old favourites such as Moon River and Stranger On The Shore, and progressed though the evening with Out of the Blue barbershop quartet's soft harmonious sounds. As the sun set, the Eynsford Concert Band completed the line up with a variety of music, both classical and modern to suite all. This climaxed with a spectacular finale of fireworks accompanied by the 1812 Overture and the Dambusters March.
We would like to thank Brian Smith, Appleby Engineering, Marsh Systems, The Bridges Pub, The Village Store, Timber Mouldings, Dartford Engineering, Sid for cutting the grass, and all the volunteers who delivered thousands of leaflets.
We hope, that with your continued support, these types of events will be continued for the enjoyment of all.
If anyone is interested in helping out before, during or after any future events, please call Dianne on 860068 or Nikki on 863549.
