At our meeting in July the speaker told us all about Tonbridge Castle, where a great deal of work has been undertaken so that it is now well worth a visit. The September meeting on the Peasants Revolt was of particular relevance to this area. On 10 November we have our AGM, when the speaker will be Marion Baldwin giving us her memories of her schooldays. On to 12 January 2004, our speaker will be Martin Lloyd talking about Buzz Bombs and Bicycles. Many of our older member will remember the doodlebugs in this area.
Our book on Court Lodge has proved so popular that we have had to have a reprint. Cost is £6. Our proposed book on the history of the schools in this area is nearing completion. If anyone has an amusing or interesting memory, Peter Flewin would still like to hear from you.
We were very pleased to hear that the Horton Kirby Paper Mill Chimney has been listed and we have a representative on the Steering Group which is exploring ways of returning the site to effective economic use.
The Sevenoaks Chronicle is due to run a series of articles on the origins and history of villages in its area.. Look out for the one on our parish.
We are looking for 2 new committee members so, if you know of anyone willing to stand, please let me know. It is not very onerous and can be interesting.
