MISSION COMPOSTABLE

BTCV, a leading conservation charity, is promoting home composting in partnership with KCC's War on Waste campaign.  They tell us that last year alone, the people of Kent generated over 700,000 tonnes of household waste which cost a staggering £48.2 million to dispose of to landfill and they want to encourage a reduction in this by composting.  Over the Summer of 2003 15,000 compost bins were sold in Kent but they want even more people to make their own compost.  The offer on plastic compost bins at only £10 each including delivery is still on but ends in
December.  If you have been thinking of getting one, now is the time to ring 0870 844 3001 to place your order.  Composting is very easy but if you want any advice, speak to Carol Allart on 865193.

TREE WARDENS

Every year Kent BTCV puts out a plea for people to volunteer as their parish tree warden.  Many years ago Vanessa Hedley was our first tree warden and even though she has moved away from the area she left a lasting legacy in the form of the flourishing hedge along the school boundary in Jacobs Lane.  Is there anybody out there enthusiastic enough to become involved with the project which might involve practical community schemes, protecting trees or making simple woodland surveys.  Free training is given.  If you want to find out more, contact Mike Cook on 01233 812033 or Kent@btcv.org.uk
