JOHNNY APPLESEED

Autumn is a good time to be "Johnny Appleseed" (the legendary American who supposedly walked the length and breadth of the US planting orchards by scattering
apple pips).  But, here in South Darenth and Horton Kirby we would rather you scattered seeds of native trees so what about taking a bag of rowan, holly or hawthorn berries or acorns, ash or field maple seeds and scattering them as you walk.  This would be particularly beneficial if you walk round the edge of Westminster Field where every year we plant a few young trees but which don't always survive.

BUSES

Timetables for the weekly buses to Gravesend and Sevenoaks are available in the parish office.

FREE TREES SCHEME = EVEN MORE TREES

The free trees scheme is ongoing and land owners can apply for up to 25. Most people would have room for only 1 or 2 small trees (rowan, holly and silver birch are available) but you can also get hedging plants which may be more useful to those with smaller plots.  Pick up a leaflet from the parish office.

Deadline is 31 October

ALUMINIUM RECYCLING = MORE TREES

Alupro, a recycling organisation is donating 1 tree for every ton of aluminium metal (cans and foil) that is recycled in Sevenoaks
District
.
