thanks go to them for their efforts. No response has been received from the SRA so we do not yet know what the outcome will be for local train users.
A new footpath was created from the A225 giving access to the Hundred Year Wood.
Speeding traffic is often discussed at Parish Council meetings and we now have the opportunity to use SID (Speed Indicator Device) in the villages. Volunteers are needed to use the equipment. The maintenance of the Lower and Top Paddocks is a continuing expense with the fencing and dead trees being a major concern. The Shrubbery Road play area needs re-fencing despite a new section of chainlink being erected by the District Council recently.
The Village Hall has occupied many hours of the Parish Council's time this year. The new chairs were a problem as the plastic backs kept breaking but all is now well since the backs and frames were all replaced by the manufacturers. However, the new frames are very squeaky and we are currently waiting for noise dampening pads to be fitted.
The drains have been replaced and a new metal gate erected at the side of the building. The electrics have been upgraded and a new security lock for the front door is going to be fitted.
A detailed investigation into the running costs of the Village Hall revealed a very large annual deficit of £14000. After much discussion it was agreed to reduce this deficit to £8000 for the year 2004/5. The rates charged to all users of the Village Hall were detailed and increases agreed for the year 2004/2005.
As a consequence of these increases the Riverside Kindergarten is now being charged £6.12 per hour instead of £1.74 per hour. The hourly charge to other users for weekdays is £7.65 for parishioners and £11.28 for non-parishioners. This increase was extremely high, but we have a duty to all parishioners to manage the precept in a responsible manner.
Finally many thanks to our Parish Clerk Carol and all employees of the Parish Council for their efforts on our behalf.
