Text Box: HORTON KIRBY PAPER MILL DEVELOPMENT

Following concerns from the Parish Council, Sevenoaks District Council officers have investigated complaints from residents about the amount of dust and the obvious damage to the chimney structure that can be seen from the road now that buildings have come down around it. Sevenoaks’ Karen Clark says: “I have approached Fairview with regard to the issue of dust who have assured me that all measures are being taken to damp down the site to minimise dust.   I have also spoken to the Council's Environmental Health team who have been to the site on a number of occasions and who are satisfied that all reasonable measures are being undertaken in relation to dampening down.

“With regard to the damage to the chimney, there is some historical
damage to the chimney that was until recently obscured from view by the buildings which are in the process of being dismantled and demolished.   That said, Fairview have been alerted to the fact that there is concern about damage to the chimney and I can confirm that a meeting has been scheduled on site (to include representatives from English Heritage) to review the existing damage to the chimney and consider the proposed works, in detail, to both the listed buildings on site.”

Planning permission has recently been sought for a temporary entrance to the site through Millstone Mews. The application seeks permission for a maximum of 14 months and will end no later than May 2009 and is essential because of the requirement to deliver 6 houses and 8 flats in a particular area by March 2008. These units will not be able to use the main access onto Horton Road during building works. The access will only be used by cars belonging to the residents and will not be used by construction traffic.
