In June work was started on the installation of our two new bells by the Whitechapel Bell Foundry. You may remember from the last newsletter that these had been cast in April. Work went very smoothly and with a lot of help from our ringers was completed, but for a few minor adjustments, in time to ring all 8 bells for the Sunday service. We hope you have noticed the difference because the 8 bells, now a full octave, sound beautiful. We are still getting to grips with 8 bell ringing which is faster than that on 6 but everyone is making good progress. We rang our first quarter peal on Tuesday 4th September with 6 Horton Kirby ringers, the most yet. We still have to rely on our friends at other towers to help us out. But one day…………

We have a good strong band including 6 junior ringers who enjoy practice nights and ringing for Sunday service and weddings. Lucy Boddington, one of our juniors left Horton Kirby Primary School in July and was able to join with us to ring for her leavers’ service. Quite an achievement!

Maybe there are some of you who would like to learn more about bell ringing. You are very welcome to come along on any practice night (Thursdays 8 to 9.30pm) and see the bells and even try your hand at ringing. It takes a while to master bell control but after that it becomes quite addictive. Our ringers range in age from 9 to 69.

When the first 6 bells were put in in 1999, Ted Henning compiled a record of photographs and an account of the installation in a black and gold commemorative book. Unfortunately this book has been mislaid and the ringers desperately want to find out where it is so that they can add to it the details of the latest bells. If anyone knows the whereabouts of this book would they please contact the parish clerk (01322 865193)
