Rural Age Concern
Rural Age Concern Darent Valley is an old, well established Registered Charity providing a wide range of
services for the elderly and disabled people in the area covered by this newsletter. A large geographical
benefit area of the 15 northern parishes of Sevenoaks and the 7 southern parishes of Dartford, with our
minibus covering an even larger area.
Services provided by a small band of dedicated staff and the large number of kind volunteers include
Day Care Centres in Swanley, Fawkham and New Ash Green; Hot home cooked fresh Lunches and
Refreshments; Assisted Bathing; Chiropody Services; Library; Computer Training; Social Games/Activities;
an extensive Transport Service of Five Minibuses; Free Impaired Hearing Clinics that can check, clean,
adjust & repair your Hearing Aid and provide new batteries for your NHS Hearing Aid, Hairdressing,
Advice & Information on any matter affecting the elderly, Referrals/sign posting to other Statutory
or Voluntary organisations; Keeping Safe information; Benefit Advice and Form Filling; a weekly
Shopmobility Service and daily Shopping Trips; a Free Home Visiting service for the Housebound;
an extensive Disabled Equipment Loans Service – where for example, Wheelchairs, Zimmer Frames,
Commodes, Bed Tables, Crutches, Walking Sticks, Walkers, Heaters, Cookers, etc, may be loaned; a
Support Service for OAP Clubs; Charity Shop offering free or low cost clothing and household Items; a
range of 34 useful Local Information Sheets and 42 National Fact Sheets; weekly Falls Prevention Classes;
low cost Will Writing and Advice; Advice or Assistance on Pensions/Money matters, Home & Garden
maintenance, Continence Care, Respite Care, paying for Residential Care; Befriending; Voluntary Drivers:
a 24 hour out of hours telephone; and more. Age Concern has an ongoing campaigning role at local and
national level to improve the quality of life for elderly people. More information on the Charity and our

Our Swanley and Fawkham/West Kingsdown premises are open from 9.00 am to 3.00/4.00 pm Monday to
Friday except Bank Holidays, so please do contact us should you wish to consider using any of our services
or if you would like any further information or assistance on any matter. No matter how big or small your
query/problem, we have mature, friendly and understanding male and female trained and qualified staff
here to help you with a combined experience of over 80 years.

MEDIATION SERVICES
Do you have a problem with your neighbours? Noise, car parking, dogs. The service is free and confidential to anyone in the Sevenoaks District Council & Tonbridge Wells Borough Council areas.
The West Kent Independent Mediation Service exists (thanks to Lottery Funding) to give free and confidential advice and to try and resolve matters by bringing the two sides together.

GARDEN WASTE - SDC are selling green paper sacks at £12 for 25 for residents to put out for collection. These can be bought from the parish office. If you have a regular amount of green waste to dispose of, the new wheelie bin may be for you. It will be provided free of charge when you pay a £42 annual fee for it to be emptied on a fortnightly basis. For full details you can call on 01732 227000 .
