Women's Institute
Our WI is one of nearly 7,000 branches of the National Federation of Women’s Institutes, which was established during the early part of the First World War, when the first British meeting took place in Llanfair …… gogogoch (look up the middle bit, then try to say it). Its earliest aims were to encourage women into food production during the war.
How things have changed, with the organisation now coming right up to date and promoting opportunities for women to gain new skills, take part in wide-ranging activities and campaign on issues that matter to them and their communities. Jam and Jerusalem we are most certainly not.
But disregard that, if you’d prefer, and think of our group as a local friendship group for women - an opportunity to meet new people, listen to many and varied speakers – all passionate about their topic – and enjoy social events and outings. One highlight of our social calendar is a weekend away, to which husbands, partners or friends are also invited. Another is the much-anticipated and enjoyed Christmas Party.
We are always pleased to welcome visitors for a free “taster” session, and those who have gone on to become Members are pleased they have!
We meet on the third Thursday of each month (except December), 7.30 p.m. at the Village Hall.
